It was a cold and short evening as the moon gave no light. Kome and her siblings were up waiting for the moonlight -a tradition that calls all the children to gather round their lovely father, the chief orator of Umudo kingdom who always tells them folktales. But today was a different one as the rains came intruding. So grandpa won't tell us a story today asked Ufuoma. No, I don't think grandpa would, replied Kome. Just when they were thinking their dad called on them to come over to their small Hut. They rushed down, spread their mats and sat for the day's tale. Unfortunately for them, their grand-father didn't tell them about his normal folktales.
Today I will be telling you a story about a young promising girl. But before I start, where is your mother? In the kitchen, they all echoed. It's okay. But Grandpa, you didn't complete that of the tortoise and the frog last night. Ufuoma, yes I didn't but today, I will be telling you a very interesting story but promise me you will listen attentively. Yes Grandpa, we are listening.
Omowoma was her name. She's dark, slim, not very tall but she was a very pretty and intelligent girl. Omowoma wasn't like other girls in her community. She was humble, respectful and hard working. She wakes up as early as 4.am, sweeps the compound, lights the fire, cook, go to the stream to fetch water, sells vegetables before going to school. Hmm! Grandpa you mean only her does that? Yes Efe, only her. Is she the only child of her parents? Kome, I will answer all your questions, but before then, call me your mother.
